The Collective partnered with Diamond Schmitt Architects and BTY Group to design and furnish York University’s Markham Campus (“YUMC”). Opening its doors in Fall 2024, the 400,000 square-foot campus is the first university in Markham, with the capacity to accommodate up to 4,400 students.

Over the span of four months, a wide range of Teknion product lines were installed throughout the campus’ formal and informal spaces, including student lounges, computer labs, classrooms, library tables, study areas, research offices, and meeting rooms.

The 10-floor interior is centered around a striking atrium that spans multiple levels, promoting openness and connectivity. Sustainability was integral to the overall design intent, contributing to YUMC’s achievement of LEED Gold certification.

Common spaces are strategically placed throughout the campus, encouraging collaboration and spontaneous interactions across programs and departments. This approach fosters an environment where both students and faculty can thrive and ultimately create positive change within higher education.
