IWK Children’s Hospital – Mental Health and Addictions Support

  • Location: MicMac Mall, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

IWK Children’s Hospital expanded its services in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to provide a comprehensive suite of mental health and addictions support for children and adolescents. The new space accommodates a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, youth care workers, recreation therapists, and child and adolescent psychiatrists, creating a centralized hub for clinical care, family support, and staff collaboration.

The Collective partnered with i.d.ah. Design Studio to furnish 40 clinical offices, 3 training and meeting rooms, 1 learning center, and 4 family/quiet rooms. Global Furniture Group served as the primary furniture provider, ensuring functional, durable, and comfortable solutions across both clinical and staff areas.

The design emphasizes a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for patients while providing private and collaborative spaces for staff. Individual offices, shared workspaces, and family areas were carefully planned to balance privacy, accessibility, and comfort.

Project installation was executed in a single phase, working closely with the construction team to meet the opening deadline. The completed space now provides a modern, safe, and supportive environment for both patients and staff, enabling IWK to deliver essential mental health and addictions services effectively to the Dartmouth community.
